Where Do We Go From Here?

As I sat down to write this post my fingers typed the title before I could think about what I wanted to write about.

Magic.

Since I was raised on rock-n-roll starting in the late 50's, yes that's the 1950's, I was wondering how many songs were written with the same title. I knew a couple of versions, firstly thinking of the Alan Parson's Project, and then to my surprise after searching on the web of the digital domain, I saw a long list of music with the same title and by a variety of artists.

Wow, this old music aficionado learned something new toady! The first song was actually written in 1917 by Written by Percy Wenrich and Howard Johnson shortly after WWI. Even more surprising are the number of songs that I saw: 30 or more. I'm willing to bet some share the same lyrics and music with different styles based on the artist. Didn't stop to listen to any of them though. I leave that up to you.

This post is actually about how we live our lives going forward. There seems to be a 'before the election' and 'after the election' energy that many people are feeling and talking about.

For myself I'm taking all of this in stride and reflecting on how I choose to live in the moment knowing that there will always be change. We've all heard that the past is gone (or done) and the future is not yet written, which leaves the present, where we actually live.

The word 'where' implies a place as noted in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary. For some this could mean picking up and moving to another country. There are ex-pats all over the world who live a simpler lifestyle. Are they any happier? Only they can say for sure.

Me? The word 'where' is more of a philosophical and mindful approach to living. I'm reminded of a quote I read recently:

Happiness is not given to us, nor is misery imposed. At every moment we are at a crossroads and must choose the direction we will take.

- Matthieu Ricard -

The 'where' could be the direction we take. So, what direction do you choose to take? Again, doesn't mean relocating to a far off and distant land. What about choosing the direction of love, compassion, ease, and joy, all sprinkled with a bit of hope for all of us?

Yes, that may be asking too much of you right now. The question is: how will you feel tomorrow, in the next days, months, or years if your present is filled with the darker emotions?

You may even have a few choice words for me right now.

GREAT!

Let that shit go.

If we were in a coaching session in our barn with a couple of horses they would let you know very clearly what to do next. The longer you carry that burden, well, the longer you'll feel the weight of it.

In his latest newsletter Alan Seale writes:

Know what matters.
Live that.

Final questions for you:

  • What matters in your life right now?
  • How do you choose to live?
  • Where do you go from here?
  • What if 'where' is the inner journey?

I appreciate feedback from the post last week and invite you to let me know how you're doing by sending an email to: [email protected]

Until next time friends.
